This album epitomizes the big band sound, from Maynard’s soaring trumpet solos, to the tight ensemble work over these brilliant arrangements.The Sax solos are flawless and energizing....The rhythm section is as cohesive as you'll ever hear.  This is  big band at its very best, and is what Maynard Ferguson fans consider to be his pivotal recording.   It was recorded live in 1973,  and released as a double album in 1974.

The Frank Vardaros Jazz Orchestra
After much anticipation, Frank Vardaros, has created a Florida version of his Jazz Orchestra. The Florida version has been together since spring of 2008. Frank is known to many as the trumpet soloist and music director for the Ryles Jazz Orchestra at Boston’s famed Ryles Jazz Club. Vardaros founded the Ryles' band in the early 90s to honor the great tradition of a house big band in a major jazz venue (i.e. the Village Vanguard Band, Thad JonesMel Lewis, andBirdland Dream Band, to name a few). The Florida version brings the same great music and high energy to a new location. It features some the best musicians in the Central Florida area.
